Aleksandr Tatarinov
Born in 1994, Aleksandr Tatarinov studied in Yekaterinburg with Lyubov Sokolova, and then graduated from the Moscow State Tchaikovsky Conservatory, where he was a student of Roman Balashov and Yuri Bashmet. Since 2021, Tatarinov has been studying at the Zurich University of the Arts (ZHdK) in the classes of Lawrence Power and Monika Baer.
The Russian violist attended master classes with Yuri Bashmet, Roman Balashov, Alexander Bobrovsky, Vladimir Stopichev, Garth Knox, Misha Katz and Wilfried Strehle. He performed at international festivals such as “December Nights Festival” and “Creative Youth of the Moscow Conservatory”, and he participated in the projects of the St. Petersburg House of Music “River of Talents” and “Evenings in the English Hall”.
As a soloist Aleksandr Tatarinov has performed with the New Russia State Symphony Orchestra, the Moscow Soloists Chamber Ensemble, the Russian National Orchestra, the Moscow Conservatory Chamber Orchestra, the State Chamber Orchestra of the Republic of Belarus and the Slovak Radio Symphony Orchestra.
Distinctive features of his play are a noble and warm sound as well as interesting interpretations of various works and styles. The violist’s repertoire ranges from the music of J. S. Bach and G. P. Telemann to works by contemporary composers such as Roxana Panufnik, Garth Knox, Atsuhiko Gondai, etc.
Since 2019, Aleksandr has been a member of the musicAeterna orchestra under the direction of Teodor Currentzis.
Aleksandr Tatarinov has won several prestigious international competitions, including the Sergei Sviridov Competition in St. Petersburg 2011 (1st prize), the VII International Savshinsky Competition in St. Petersburg 2016 (1st prize), the VI International Music Competition in Stockholm 2017 (3rd prize), the VIII Yuri Bashmet Viola Competition “Viola Masters” in Moscow 2018 (2nd prize) and the Vienna Classic Strings in the Austrian capital 2019 (3rd prize). He won special prizes “for the best performance of a work by a Russian author” as well as a prize from the Bashmet Center «La Viola Carte Blance concerto» in Moscow in 2018. At the Rahn Musikpreis 2022 he won the 3rd prize in the category for viola.

The board of trustees of the Rahn Kulturfonds meets twice a year and will consider all fully completed applications received.

Rahn Kulturfonds supports requests regarding a contribution to the performance fees if:
- it is a project with or by Rahn Kulturfonds prize winners.
- it is a project with Rahn Kulturfonds scholarship holders.
Rahn Kulturfonds supports its prize winners and scholarship holders during four years after receiving the award.
