Guillermo Ortega Santos
Guillermo was born in Madrid in 1995 and began his musical education at the age of seven. He completed his bachelor’s degree with distinction and obtained the highest qualification and the “Extraordinary Prize of the Arts” at the University Alfonso X in Madrid. There he studied with Asier Polo, considered one of the most important Spanish cellists of his generation. Currently Guillermo is studying “Master Performance” at the Music Academy Basel with Professor Rafael Rosenfeld. He received important impulses from renowned musicians such as Peter Bruns, Stephan Fork, Alban Gerdhardt, Emil Rovner, Rainer Schmidt, Anton Kernjak, Sergio Azzolini and Valentin Erben.
He has been awarded several prizes in competitions, among them first prize in the National Competition “City of Vigo”; third prize and prize for “Best Performer of Spanish Music” in the International Competition “Villa de Llanes”; first prize in the IX Music Festival “Intercentros Madrid” with his chamber music group; second prize in the National Competition “Jaime Dobato Benavente” and second prize in the V Cello Festival “Cello Arquillos”. Guillermo has played in major European concert halls, including the Konzerthaus Berlin, Wiener Musikverein, Het Concertgebouw and Auditorio Nacional in Madrid.
He has received various scholarships from the Lyra Foundation, the Rahn Kulturfonds, the Community of Madrid and the Music Academy of Basel, among others.
Guillermo is an active member of the Young National Orchestra of Spain (JONDE). He regularly collaborates with several symphony orchestras, such as the Tonhalle Orchestra Zurich, the Symphony Orchestra Basel, the Spanish Radio and Television Symphony Orchestra, the Orquestra Nacional and the Chamber Academy Basel.
Since September 2019, he is an academician with the Tonhalle Orchestra Zurich.
The board of trustees of the Rahn Kulturfonds meets twice a year and will consider all fully completed applications received.

The Rahn Kulturfonds supports requests regarding a contribution to the performance fees if:
- it is a project with or by Rahn Kulturfonds prize winners.
- it is a project with Rahn Kulturfonds scholarship holders.
The Rahn Kulturfonds supports its prize winners and scholarship holders during four years after receiving the award.
