Luis Homedes López
Luis Homedes López, born in Madrid in 1994, started playing the saxophone and drums at the age of 8 under the direction of Mario Biendicho, Enrique de Tena and Carlos Franco. He continued his studies at the Conservatory “Amaniel” under Angel Luis de la Rosa and graduated with the awards “Matrícula de Honor” and “Premio Fin de Grado”. In 2014, Luiz Homedes López enrolled at the Hochschule für Musik in Basel and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Music in the class of Marcus Weiss. The young saxophonist is currently in the Master’s program Music Performance, also with Marcus Weiss.
Luis Homedes López has performed at various renowned contemporary music festivals, including “Zeiträume Basel” or “Zürich International Saxfest”, “La Escucha Errante” in Bilbao, or as first saxophonist at the “Kúrtag-Ligeti Workshop” in Budapest. He gained orchestral experience through performances with the Basel Symphony Orchestra, the Chamber Academy and the “Juventus Musica” orchestras in Basel.
At this stage, he focuses mainly on chamber music and performs with the “Fraktál Duo”, founded in 2017 with pianist Carlos Emilio López, or with the ensemble for contemporary music known as the “Dini Mueter Trio”.
In his continuous search to give the saxophone a place in classical music, Luis Homedes López is constantly expanding the short original classical repertoire for saxophone with his own transcriptions. At the same time, he also focuses with contemporary music – and with particular interest in electronic music.
Since 2017, he teaches, among others, at the “International Community Music School” in Basel.
