Samuel Alcántara

Samuel Alcantara was born in Venezuela. In 1996 he started studying double bass at the academy “Antonio Esteva” in his home country Venezuela. A year later, he became a member of the National Youth Symphony Orchestra of Venezuela. With this orchestra he undertakes a tour through Brazil, Italy, Jamaica, France and Germany. In 1998 he joined the “Instituto Universitario de Estudios Musicales” in Caracas. 2001 he transferred to the Conservatory Neuchâtel in the double bass lessons of Marc Antoine Bonanomi. The following year he plays as a member of the “Orchester Suisse Romande” and the “Sinfonietta de Lausanne”. In 2003 he wins the second prize in the “Maurice Rubelli” competition. In 2006 he wins the second prize in the RAHN MUSIKPREIS competition. Samuel Alcantara has been playing in the Tonhalle Orchestra Zurich since 2011.
